UPDATED: 24 October 2026
EVENT: 23–24 October 2026
The US State Department announced staffing reductions at its embassies in Jordan, Lebanon, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, according to reporting on 23–24 October. The embassies remain open. Unlike the ordered departure of non-emergency personnel and families from Saudi Arabia on 21 October, personnel in these four countries are not compelled to leave.
Assessment: The measures reflect heightened personnel-protection concerns. They do not by themselves establish a decision to conduct new military strikes against Iran.
