Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto has said European contributions to the naval mission in the Red Sea remain insufficient relative to the threat and the requirements of protecting commercial traffic through Bab el-Mandeb.
The issue is operational rather than purely political: force availability, escort capacity and persistence directly affect the mission’s ability to protect shipping while Houthi missile and UAV activity continues. Rome is pressing other European states to increase their contribution.
