Ukraine is discussing with Poland and Slovakia whether customs checks on lorries carrying grain exports can be moved from border crossings to locations inside those countries. Kyiv says the proposal responds to Russian attacks on border areas and follows joint control arrangements established with Moldova.

The discussions remain ongoing; no agreement has been reported. Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry has said it wants to expand joint border-control arrangements with neighbouring states.

Assessment: The proposal could reduce the exposure of export traffic at vulnerable crossings and improve continuity of grain movements. Its effect will depend on bilateral agreements, inspection capacity and the security of inland sites.
